Association of the Resurrection

The Association of the Resurrection is a Lebanese Christian foundation devoted to human dignity, social service, charity, and cultural enrichment. It was founded by Reverend Father Joseph Hallit, Superior and founder of the Monastery of the Resurrection, whose life was a testament to faith and service until his passing on September 22, 2019.

Amid the suffering of the devastating Lebanese War (1975–1991), the Association was established as a beacon of hope, officially recognized by the Lebanese Ministry of Interior on June 2, 1982 (Decree No. 67/A.D). Born seven years into a conflict that left Lebanon shattered—its land scarred, its people divided, and its resources depleted—the foundation emerged as a response to Christ’s call to heal the wounds of a broken nation.

Through its mission, the Association of the Resurrection continues to bring light into darkness, restoring faith, unity, and compassion in a land yearning for peace and renewal.

"I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger, and you took me into your home."

Matthew 25:35

What We Do

Aid for Displaced and Refugees

Because of the Lebanese War and the very dangerous bombing mainly over the Capital City of Beirut, many of our people left the areas of risk for places, where it was more safe and secure. Many of them came to us, first in Achkout (Kesrwan), where we had rented a big house, and then to Faraya, where we have built our main official siege.

Scholarships for Students

From the very beginning, the Association of the Resurrection has been committed to supporting underprivileged Lebanese students by providing full scholarships every year. By helping them pursue their education in various schools and universities, we strive to empower the next generation and offer them hope for a brighter future.

A Dispensary for Poor Sick People

Since we are in a country where no social system exists to take care of people getting sick, and in order to help many of them who are poor and do not have the financial means to go to the doctors or to the hospitals, we have decided to open, very soon, and we did, in our building in Rawda, a “Dispensary”, the “Dispensary of the Resurrection”

Our Accomplishments

  • During the Lebanese war, and during eight months, we gave a free shelter to five hundred people, escaping the bombs falling on Beirut.
  • In 1982 in Chabrouh/Faraya, we founded the Monastery of the Resurrection, where till today spiritual retreats, sessions and seminaries are organized, especially for the youth, in order to help them grow humanly and morally.
  • In 1988, also in Chabrouh/Faraya, we built the Social Center of Al-Fadi, where regularly camps for handicapped are organized. This Center passed into the hands of the Knights of Malta.
  • In 1998, in New-Rawda/Bouchryeh (Beirut), we constructed a Student Home for young girls coming from the rural areas to study at the universities of Beirut. In 2010, in Haouche-Hala/Riyaq, we founded the “Social-medical Center of the Resurrection”, where services and medicines are offered for free.
  • From the beginning and yearly, we provide some free scholarships to poor students.
  • From the beginning and till today, we offer a monthly amount to about 30 poor families, in order to help them buy their daily bread.
  • Actually, and occasionally, we provide shelter, financial money, social assistance to some refugees from Syria.
  • Very soon, In New-Rawda, we will be opening a "Warm Room" for old people as well, where they could spend their day in a spiritual and human atmosphere and get free daily lunch.
